Zack Greinke Likely To Have Start Pushed Back For Birth of Child

Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke extended his scoreless innings streak to 43 2/3 innings against the Nationals last Sunday, but his next start will likely have to wait.

einke was scheduled to start against the Mets on Friday at Citi Field, but Ken Gurnick of
MLB.comreports that he has left the team to be present for the birth of his first child. However, don’t get too excited, Mets fans.
According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that they are optimistic he’ll be able to pitch at some point this weekend. As of now, it’s unclear who will start any of the next three games for the Dodgers.

Greinke owns a major-league best 1.30 ERA and 117/21 K/BB ratio over 131 1/3 innings this season. His scoreless streak is the longest in the MLB since Orel Hershiser set the all-time record with 59 innings in 1988.
